The NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health
The NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Safety and Health is established as a leading award in construction health and safety and was first introduced in 1989. It is designed to provide a sound breadth of underpinning knowledge that enables people to discharge more effectively their duties or functions with respect to health and safety in construction activities. Such people include site managers, planning supervisors, employee representatives etc.
The NEBOSH Construction Certificate aims to provide those making day-to-day decisions in construction work with a broad knowledge of health and safety in order to ensure that the health and safety implications of their decisions are properly taken into account. The vast majority of occupational injuries and incidents of ill-health are avoidable by good health and safety management; and good health and safety management is an essential element of good overall management.
The Syllabus
The syllabus is divided into 3 units:

8 Incident and accident investigation and reporting
Elements of NCC1:
1 Construction law and management
2 Construction activities, hazards and control
3 Movement of people and vehicles – hazards and control
4 Manual and mechanical techniques – hazards and control
5 Work equipment – hazards and control
6 Electrical hazards and control
7 Fire hazards and control
8 Chemical and biological health hazards and control
9 Physical and psychological health hazards and control
10 Working at height – hazards and control
11 Evacuation work and confined spaces – hazards and control
12 Demolition hazards and control
The Examinations
NEBOSH sets and marks two written examination papers, Papers NGC1 and NCC1. Each paper contains one 20-mark question and ten 8-mark questions. The time allowed for each paper is two hours and candidates are required to answer all questions.
NCC2 (the practical assessment) is set and marked by a suitably qualified assessor at Woodward SHE Ltd, to a standard set and moderated by NEBOSH.
Entry Criteria
Whereas the syllabus and assessment requirements for the NEBOSH National General Certificate previously formed part of the Construction Certificate, the revised syllabus is now entirely stand-alone. Some major rationalisation of the syllabus which avoids the same issues being dealt with both in a general context and in relation to construction work, means that the Construction Certificate is approximately at the same level as before but can be achieved from a shorter programme of study.
This means that there are no formal entry criteria to the NEBOSH Construction Certificate programme.
The Programme
15 day Open Programme
The course will be delivered over 15 days in Glasgow, Scotland. Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the course.
The cost for each delegate on the course will be £1775.00 + VAT

Those delegates who hold a current NGC1 Unit Certificate (within the last 5 years) may attend the shorter 10 day Full time programme.
10 day Open Programme
The course will be delivered over 7 days in Glasgow, Scotland. Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the course.
The cost for each delegate on the course will be £ 1245 + VAT
